Khalid bin 'Aoun narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'oud (RA) once said to him: "True knowledge is not measured in relationship to how much you memorize and then narrate, but rather, true knowledge is an expression of piety (Ikhlaas)."

Abu Darda' (Radi Allahu 'anhu) used to say, "One does not become truly pious unless he becomes learned, and one does not enjoy the beauty and benefits of his knowledge unless he practices what he knows." (Hilyatul Awliyaa, Imam Al-Asafahaani (rh))
