The best of the best -
the ULTIMATE top 100

Have you ever wondered to yourself what it actually means to be the best?

When we are told that 'this is the best' or 'that was the greatest' or 'this will bring the most benefit' etc, have you ever thought who on Earth gave such people/editors the authority to tell us that? In an age when we have a plethora of 'Top 10' or 'Top 100' lists on everything from cars to films, from foods to places, one wonders where is that list that will really provide some benefit to us in this current short life and the next very long one.

Well, wait no more. Below, from a choice of hundreds of narrations from our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, you can find 100 hadîth, in no particular order of merit, detailing ways on exactly how to become the best, how to have the most excellent characteristics, what really will prove most beneficial for us to know, what really are the greatest things to think about and hope for and indeed, how to become the most beloved of people to our Magnificent Creator, Allah, the Most High.

No more subjectivity, no more empty statements; just the divine criteria of what really is the best as developed by the very best himself, Muhammad al-Mustapha, upon whom be peace.

So go on, don't be ordinary. Don't be common. Don't be typical ...

Be the best.

Sayyidina Muhammad, peace be upon him, told us:

20. "The best of you are my generation, then those that follow them and then those that follow them. Then there shall come after them a people who will betray and be untrustworthy, will give witness even though they have not been asked to, will make vows yet will not fulfil them and obesity will appear amongst them." [Bukhâri]

21. "The best of you are those who feed others and return greetings." [Abu Ya'lâ, Hasan]

28. "The best of the world's women are four: Maryum bint 'Imrân, Khadîjah bint Khuwaylid, Fâtimah bint Muhammad and Âsiyah the wife of Fir'awn." [Ahmad, Sahîh]

29. "The best of days that you should perform cupping are the 17th, 19th and 21st of the month. I did not pass a single gathering of angels on the night of Isrâ' except that they would say to me, 'O Muhammad, perform cupping!'" [Ahmad, Sahîh]

30. "The best day on which the Sun has risen is Friday; on it Âdam was created, on it Âdam was made to enter Paradise and on it he was expelled. The Hour will not be established except on Friday." [Muslim]

31. "Verily, the best of perfume for men is that which is strong in smell and light in colour, and the best of perfume for women is that which is strong in colour and light in smell." [Tirmidhî, Sahîh]

40. "The most beloved of people according to Allah is he who brings most benefit, and the most beloved of deeds according to Allah the Mighty, the Magnificent, is that you bring happiness to a fellow Muslim, or relieve him of distress, or pay off his debt or stave away hunger from him. It is more beloved to me that I walk with my brother Muslim in his time of need than I stay secluded in the mosque for a month. Whoever holds back his anger, Allah will cover his faults and whoever suppresses his fury while being able to execute it, Allah will fill his heart with satisfaction on the Day of Standing. Whoever walks with his brother Muslim in need until he establishes that for him, Allah will establish his feet firmly on the day when all feet shall slip. YOUTH VISION STATEMENT

YOUTH VISION STATEMENT

As the days get darker and darker

With the headlines creating more and more fear

And the news getting more and more depressing

In times where the daylight is feared just as much as the dark

And people fear for their lives from people they know as well as strangers

We are growing up in a world facing many problems and issues

Where the darkness of these days are blinding us

In times like these, who has the vision to see a way out?

Who will answer the call to make a change?

I see in the distance the shadow of a people who have risen up

They have broken away from the rest of their people

They emerge from the alley ways and the staircases

Not carrying with them drugs or needles, but the Qur’an and the Sunnah

They graduate from their universities, colleges and schools holding their certificates in their hands

Knowing that the exam of live continues

They resist the temptations that surround them every day

When they introduce ‘him’ to the family

It is a day of celebration and not humiliation

They walk the streets with their eyes on the ground

But their heads are held up high

They have respect and honour, not because they rule their yard

But because they rule by Islam

Who are these people, who give their time, energy, wealth and lives to make sure that the Deen does not disappear?

Today we have sown the seeds of change

But who will water it, so that it may bloom?

We all have a role in building our futures and making a change

There exists the problem and the solution

Everyone here today can be a leader in their own right

We can all break away from the crowd

And instead of following everyone

We can lead them in the straight path and make that change

Only YOU can decide which side you want to be on,

Are you a part of the problem OR are you a part of the solution?

“Oh you who believe, respond to the call of Allah and His Messenger when He calls you to that which would give you life…”

Saamiah Salam

Friday Prayer

As'salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

InshaAllah a reminder about Friday Prayers/Jumuah.

The Excellence of Friday Prayer

Allah, the Exalted, says:

"Then when the (Jumu`ah) Salat is ended, you may disperse through the land, and seek the Bounty of Allah (by working), and remember Allah much: that you may be successful.'' (62:10)

1147. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. On that day Adam was created, he was admitted to Jannah, and he was expelled therefrom.''
[Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith tells us of the excellence of Jumu`ah. Many achievements were made on this day which also go to prove its excellent position in Islam.

1148. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "If anyone performs Wudu' properly, then comes to the Friday prayer, listens to the Khutbah (religious talk) attentively and keeps silent, his (minor) sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven, with the addition of three more days; but he who touches pebbles has caused an interruption. ''
[Muslim].

Commentary:
1. "If anyone performs ablution properly'' means does it in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), that is to say, one should not exceed the prescribed limits, nor should one use water extravagantly. One should wash every organ of the body involved in "Wudu'', at the most for three times. One should neither use water in excess of the need nor leave any of the organs unwashed or partly washed in Wudu'. This Hadith also makes it evident that it is more meritorious to perform Wudu' at home.

2.Sins of ten days are pardoned because every virtue has at least ten-times reward. Here sins means minor sins as the major ones are not forgiven without sincere repentance nor are Huquq-ul-`Ibad i.e., (rights of people) forgiven without compensation.

3.One should listen to the Khutbah quietly with full attention. One must avoid toying with anything (such as straws, one's watch, etc.) as this is a useless exercise, which will doubtlessly deprive one of the Friday reward.

Points of Benefit: Ibn Qayyim

Points of Benefit
Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyyah

from al-Fawaa'id of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
Faid ur-Rahmaan fee al-Fawaa'id il-Hisaan no. 1 p. 30-32
Abridged by Sh. Husain al-Awaayishah

* How can anyone who has common sense trade Paradise and what is in it for the pleasure of one hour?

* When you fear the creation, you feel repelled by it and run away from it, but when you fear the Creator, you feel close to Him and run towards Him.

* If knowledge without action were of benefit, why did Allaah condemn the scholars of the People of the Book? And if action without sincerity were of benefit, why did He condemn the hypocrites?

* Repel the thought, for if you don't, it becomes an idea. So repel the idea, for if you don't it will become a desire. So fight against that (desire), for if you don't, it will become a determination and a passion. And if you don't repel that, it will become an action. And if you don't replace it with its opposite, it will become a constant habit. So at that point, it will be difficult for you to change it.

* When a decreed matter occurs to Allaah's 'abd (slave), which he dislikes, then he should have six perspectives about it

- First: The Perspective of Tawheed:

And that Allaah is the One who decreed it and willed it and created it. And whatever Allaah wills comes to pass, and whatever He doesn't will doesn't come to pass

- Second: The Perspective of Fairness:

And that He ruled this event to occur in the past and that there is fairness in His Divine ordainment.

- Third: The Perspective of Mercy:

And that the person's mercy with regard to this thing that was decreed supercedes his anger and vengeance

- Fourth: The Perspective of Wisdom:

And that it was Allaah's infinite Wisdom that brought that about. He did not decree it in vain nor did He divinely execute it for no purpose

- Fifth: The Perspective of Praise:

And that to Allaah belongs the complete and entire praise for that thing that was decreed from every angle of it.

- Sixth: The Perspective of Worship to Allaah ('Ubudiyyah):

And that he is a pure worshipper of Allaah from every standpoint. His Master's Rulings and Decrees occur to him by virtue of his being Allaah's possession and slave. So Allaah administers him under His decreed rulings just as He administers him under His religious rulings. So it (i.e. the decreed event) becomes a place for these rulings to occur to him.

* Little success (from Allaah), bad views, unawareness of the truth, corruption of the heart, laziness in making dhikr, wasting time, distaste for the creation, estrangement between the servant and his Lord, the prevention of the supplication from being answered, hardening of the heart, the termination of blessing from ones provision and lifespan, the prevention of knowledge, being covered in debasement, humiliation at the hands of the enemy, constricting of the chest, prolonged grief and sorrow, a wretchedlife of poverty, and a gloomy state of being are all produced from sins and neglecting to remember Allaah just as crops are produced from water and burning from fire. And the opposites of these things are produced from obedience to Allaah.

* If your mind would free itself from the governorship of your desires, the state would return back to it.

* You have entered into the abode of desires, so you have put your life at stake.

* It was once to said to one devout worshipper of Allaah: "Until when will you continue to exhaust your soul?" So he responded: "It is its relaxation that I seek."

* The women of this world were made beautiful to those who can see in order to test which of them prefers them over the women of the Hereafter. So whoever knows the extent of differences, he will choose what deserves to be chosen.

inshaAllah today we will discuss about one of the article of the belief that is about qadla wa qadar….maybe some of you memorize what we called as imanu mujmal….amantu billah, wamalaikatihi wa kutubihi warusulihi wal yaumil akhiri wal daqa’I khairahumma wa syrrihumma minallahi ta’ala…

Yes! We will talk about the last bit of that imanu mujmal….

Before hand I just want to know how many of you do memorize that imanu mujmal.

And how many of you understand the meaning of it?

And how many of you can explain about all those 6 things and its relation with our life in this world???

If none can explain then here I am to explain it and that’s why I want your mind with me for maybe about 15 mints and don’t think about anything else. Just listen and try to understand my simple English. Ready?

Okay before I start I just want to ask you, have u ever been so sad in you life?

And have u ever been happy? Have u ever notice that your eyebrow never get long and have u ever notice and think that your hair is growing? have u noticed that every living things will die and have u ever notices as well that man wont be able to walk on the water, every ball that we throw up will go down to the earth, that water always move from top hill to the lower part of the earth?

All my explanation will be linked with all I‘ve mentioned just now…..and I just want to you realize how the understanding that we have about all around us will bring correct point of view of all we have to do in this life…..

I m sure all of you believe that Allah is the one who created us, I am sure all of you believe that Muhammad SAW is His messenger, I m sure all of you believe that our mission living in this world, taking a breath every minutes, the beating of our heart has a purpose and that is to worship Allah…..

So if we understand and decide that is our mission living in this duniya then now how we going to apply this to our reality….the only thing we can do is obeying His entire rule and applying all His law in our daily life action! How our action will be reward able, how we have to prioritize things, how we have to gain reward in every single things that happen in our life. This is what qadla wa qadar talking about….we will talk about human’s action related with the reward and punishment in the day of judgement…but 1stly you have to be sure as well how beautiful jannah is and how scary and horrible hellfire is….I am not going to explain this now but u can raise this as question later on in QS time…

Now sisters…if we look at the reality of what happening around us and what fall to us…then we will realize that there are 2 spheres.

  1. is the sphere where We are dominated by Someone i.e Allah SWT
  2. Is the sphere where we dominate within it?

The sphere/area where we are dominated meaning that Allah has control over us, no matter what we want, no matter how hard we try to avoid it we wont be able to avoid it, we have to submit with the decision that Allah made for us

In this are we can be divided into 2

  • is the area that we can understand the pattern for example the one that I asked you earlier that human beings wont be able to walk on the water, every living things will die, every time we throw up the ball will go down to the earth and water will always find the lower place….this things is well-known as law of the universe and we have no option but obeying it, even though we try hard not to obey it then we will end up being part of that universe law…in this case as a Muslim who want a lot of rewards then what we can do is pondering and think how Almighty Allah is and how powerful he is controlling everything and we can gain a lot of scientific knowledge from the pattern that he created
  • the 2nd one is the area where we are dominated but it doesn’t follow the law of the universe, for example, you have been walking very careful, look right and left but yet you still get accident, or maybe you’ve been trying hard to study and try to pass the exams but yet you failed, or maybe you tried hard to keep your money and mobile phone safe but yet it was stolen, or maybe you just laying down on the bed and suddenly you neighbour knock your doors and send you sweet or maybe invite you for lunch together or maybe you try to enter very good school or university, get a job but u failed the exams and the interview or maybe extremely while you walking in the demo suddenly there’s a brother come to you and ask your hand to marry him…ha-ha….but

You see sister? All these things happen beyond our expectation and maybe we never thought that it’s going to happen. How come is it? Because Allah controls all those things and because its controlled by him then He will never ask us in the day of judgement about these things, he wont ask why we failed in the exam, why we got accident, why we get the sweet and why we didn’t get the job but definitely He will ask what is our reaction when we got all those so called ‘surprise’? are we patient enough if something bad fall to us or we’re just mourning and mourning, get agitated and then shout and swearing, curse other people for what has happen, or maybe throw pillow, break plate, bang the door or maybe lift and throw the bed/sofa if you are strong girl…he

On the other hand, He will ask you if you get happiness things Allah will question what your reaction is. Are you grateful or end up with being arrogant as you feel you can achieve something that not many people can achieve it.

Now! We talk about the 2nd sphere where we dominate and we have control to what will happen and what has happened

In this case I can give u example that you coming to this project, I am sure none of us feeling that there’s something /ghost or something dragging your leg to this hall. Yes maybe your friend force to come but if you really don’t want to come then you can escape, or maybe now you can still leave the place, there is no such reality that suddenly you realize that you sit somewhere without knowing why you are there and what makes you reach there. Because this is under our control then we have a lot of option, we have choice to do this and that but the problem now what is the standard to choose, are choosing just because it goes with our desire and its fun or we choose it because Allah said so….in this case we need Islamic knowledge to get the right option plus keep seeking it and the most important thing that we have to remember in every decision that we make in this sphere will be accounted in the day of judgement justly by Allah SWT. He will questioned you how do spend your holiday? Are you just playing around, shopping around, having fun with friends and forget to pray for get to seek Islamic knowledge, forget to learn the Quran, or you spending usefully by attending the summer youth project!

Allah mentioned in the Quran surah Zalzalah :6-8

6.On that Day will men proceed in companies sorted out, to be shown the deeds that they (had done)-7 Then shall anyone who has done an atom’s weight of good, see it!-8 And anyone who has done an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it.

And in surah al balad :10 Allah says

وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ And shown him the two highways?

And surah AsSyams : 8

And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;-- فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا

From this fact then we have to be careful when we decide something, or when we choose something, always ask yourself what is the reason I choose this and what Islam says about this? Inhale by questioning and thinking ahead before doing the action will save us from the hell-fire and wrong decision.

The last one is about Qadar. Its definition is an attribute, every object in this world has its own attribute for example, fire has attribute to burn, water to wet/fresh, knife to cut. Will it be used to kill or to cut onion it depends on human beings, and if it is used to kill then the mistake is not to the knife but to the one who carry the action, and as human being we have attribute that is the instinct as well as the organic needs that drive us to do a lot of things in our life.

Youth Nasiha: Day 1

As'salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu sisters!!!

Today was our first day of Youth Nasiha and mashaAllah it was great!! Here's what we did today, feedback and comments would be greatly appreciated, jazakamullahu khair.

First we had an icebreaker, where all the sisters had to say their name and one interesting thing about themselves.

Secondly we had a debate about the existence of a Creator, we had two groups of people, one trying to convince us there was a Creator and the other refuting the exitence of a God, we had three judges that needed to be convinced, and alhamdulillah they were convinced (obviously).

Third, we had a presentation about the existence of Angels, we briefly discussed different angels, their roles in humans, their duties.

Fourthly a discussion about the Last Day, Al-Akhira everyone took part by telling us what they knew about it.

And lastly in the afternoon we did arts and crafts, cushion making, bag making, glass decorating and marbling (some people did get a lil carried away....but alhamdulillah was great fun).

InshaAllah sisters if you could let us know what you thought, what was good, bad and any comments, tips you have!

Nine Great Benefits of Reading and Reflecting Over the Qur'aan

Nine Great Benefits of Reading and Reflecting Over the Qur'aan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, may His Salaah and Salaam be upon His last Messenger Muhammad, to proceed:

Indeed the Book of Allah is not a book like any other, it is the timeless Speech of Allah, not a created thing, a study guide for life and death and what comes after. Therefore it deserves a more careful study than anyone else's speech. It necessitates that its reader return to the early narrations of those who witnessed its revelation and heard its explanation by the one deputed by Allah to rehearse and explain His Words to humanity (SAW). For if one would try to ponder over the meanings of the verses without having done this study, then surely the filth of the time that he lives in and his ignorance of the correct application and understanding that the early Muslims had would cause him to understand some things not intended by Allah Most High, and therefore he would go astray, thinking to be worshipping Allah.

So every sincere Muslim who hopes to earn Allah's Love by reciting and reflecting over Allah's Book, then let him hold tight to the meanings explained by the Prophet (SAW), and those taught by the Companions and their immediate followers, and the early scholars of Islaam.

Know that reciting and pondering over the Book of Allah, devoting your time regularly to its study and implementation has tremendous benefits in this life and the Next, so let us now look to just a few of them to attach ourselves more firmly to Allah's Majestic Words. Each benefit stands as enough of an encouragement on its own for us to shun any laziness we have and dedicate ourselves to the Qur'aan properly.

1 - Reading and reflecting over the Qur'aan fulfills an Islaamic duty
Indeed the Prophet (SAW) summarized this Religion with his statement: "The Religion is naseehah (sincerity)!"

So then Tameem ibn Aws (RA) then said, "We asked, 'To whom?'" He (SAW) replied: "To Allah, HIS BOOK, His Messenger, the leaders of the people, and their common folk." [Muslim]

The sincerity that is due to the Book of Allah, as Ibn Rajab Al-Hambalee said, includes having a strong love for it, honoring it and extolling its great status, affirming that it is the Speech of Allah, seeking to understand its meanings, acting by it, following the orders found in it, spreading its correct understanding, continually studying it, and taking on the good manners that are encouraged in it. [Jaami'ul-Uloom wal-Hikam]

So by reading and reflecting over the Qur'aan, one fulfills an obligation and is rewarded for that. Upon fulfilling this obligation, the Qur'aan then becomes a proof for him on the Day of Judgement! And that is our second benefit we will take by embracing this Noble Book...

2 - The Qur'aan will be a proof for us on the Day of Judgement
This is due to the statement of the Messenger: "...and the Qur'aan is a proof for you or against you..." [Muslim]

So one of two things will occur with this proof, the Book of Allah. It will either be in your favor, a proof for you on the Day when you will need every single good deed, or it will be something standing against you, the very Speech of your Creator, a proof against you! Who could be saved from the terrors of that Day if Allah's own Speech is against him?!?!

Think carefully, dear Muslim brother or sister, about your position with the Qur'aan! Are you neglecting it, contradicting it, being heedless of its orders and prohibitions, are you thinking deeply over it?! Will it be on your side on the Day of Judgement?!

O Allah! We ask you, by Your Glorious Speech and the rest of Your beautiful Names and Attributes, to make the Qur'aan a proof for us! O Allah! Don't make the Qur'aan a proof against us on that Day, and save us from the hellfire!

For if Allah makes the Qur'aan a proof in our favor on that Day, then it would also be an intercessor for us, when NO intercession will take place except by His Permission.

3 - The Qur'aan will intercede for us on the Day of Judgement
The proof: Abu Umaamah relates that the Prophet (SAW) said: "Read the Qur'aan, for verily it will come on the Day of Standing as an intercessor for its companions." [Muslim]

4 - Your status in this life will be raised
In Saheeh Muslim, we find a lovely story, about how a man from the promised people of Jannah, 'Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, and his deputy over Makkah understood this. On the authority of 'Aamir ibn Waathilah, he said that Naafi' ibn 'Abdil-Haarith met up with 'Umar (ibn Al-Khattaab) at (a place called) 'Usfaan. 'Umar used to put him (Naafi') to work (to govern) over Makkah.

So he ('Umar) said, "Who have you put to work (to govern) over the people of the Valley (Makkah)?"

He (Naafi') said, "Ibn Abzaa."

He ('Umar) said, "Who is Ibn Abzaa?"

He (Naafi') said, "One of our freed slaves."

He ('Umar) said, "So you have put a freed slave in charge of them?"

He (Naafi') said, "Verily he is a recitor of the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and verily he is knowledgeable of the laws of inheritance."

'Umar said, "Verily your Prophet (SAW) had said: "Verily Allah raises some people by way of this Book and lowers others by it." [Muslim]

5 - You will be from the best of the people

'Uthmaan (RA), the third khaleefah and fourth most virtuous person on earth after the Prophet (SAW), Aboo Bakr, and 'Umar, said that the Prophet (SAW) said:

"The best of you are the ones who learn the Qur'aan and teach it to others" [Bukhari]

6 - There are ten rewards for each letter you recite from the Qur'aan
As an authentic hadeeth in Sunan At-Tirmidhi proves: "Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that "Alif, Laam, Meem" is a letter, rather I am saying that "Alif" is a letter, "laam" is a letter, and "meem" is a letter."

So increase your recitation of the Qur'aan to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well...

7 - The recitors of the Qur'aan will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels
'Aa'ishah (Ra), the Prophet's beloved wife who held his head in her lap as he took his last blessed breaths, relates that the Prophet (SAW) said:"Verily the one who recites the Qur'aan beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward." [Muslim]

So do not let the Shaytaan give you false excuses, such as "I am not an 'Arab," or "Its not my language." This hadeeth is a firm proof against these whisperings. Dedicate yourself to the Book of Allah, whether you are an 'Arab or not! The excuses have been eliminated and the pathway has been cleared for you to embrace the Book of Allah without holding back or offering excuses!

And surely you will not hesitate to seek a teacher or a study circle for the Qur'aan once you hear the last and perhaps greatest benefits of reading and contemplating over the Qur'aan...

8 - The Qur'aan will lead you to Paradise
The Prophet (SAW) said: "The Qur'aan is an intercessor, something given permission to intercede, and it is rightfully believed in. Whoever puts it in front of him, it will lead him to Paradise; Whoever puts it behind him, it will steer him to the Hellfire." [Ibn Hibaan]

9 - Your position in Paradise is determined by the amount of Qur'aan you memorize in this life
'Abdullaah ibn 'Amr ibn Al-'Aas(RA) heard the Prophet (SAW) saying: "It will be said to the companion of the Qur'aan: Read and elevate (up through the levels of the Paradise) and beautify your voice as you used to do when you were in the dunya! For verily, your position in the Paradise will be at the last verse you recite!" [Tirmidhi]

Know that these nine benefits, from the many benefits available, can only be attained by a sincere commitment to the Book of Allah, not by a person's mere statement, "I love the Qur'aan, it's beautiful." Rather the heart must be sincerely attached to Allah's Book and the limbs and tongue will follow in this attachment.

You must know that only a few of the numerous benefits of reading and reflecting over the Qur'aan have been mentioned here. There are many benefits that await your reading in the Qur'aan and books of hadeeth, like the chapter of the Qur'aan that will argue on your behalf in the grave, and that it is a physical healing, a source of rest and relaxation for your heart, among many other things.

And Allah knows best.

The sweetness of Iman

On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

“There are three qualities whosoever has them, may taste the sweetness of Faith:

firstly one who loves Allah and His Messenger (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) above all else;

secondly one who loves someone simply for the sake of Allah,

and thirdly, one who loathes return to disbelief, after Allah has rescued him from it, as he would loath being thrown into the Fire.”

- True knowledge -

Khalid bin 'Aoun narrated that 'Abdullah bin Mas'oud (RA) once said to him: "True knowledge is not measured in relationship to how much you memorize and then narrate, but rather, true knowledge is an expression of piety (Ikhlaas)."

Abu Darda' (Radi Allahu 'anhu) used to say, "One does not become truly pious unless he becomes learned, and one does not enjoy the beauty and benefits of his knowledge unless he practices what he knows." (Hilyatul Awliyaa, Imam Al-Asafahaani (rh))

- How to control your desires-

Just 5 simple points to remember:

A man came to Ibrahim ibn Adham (RA) and said, "Abu Ishaq, I am unable to control my lower self. Please give me something to help me with it."
"If you accept five conditions,"
said Ibrahim, "and are able to put them into practice, your disobedience will not cause you any problem."

"Just tell me what they are, Abu Ishaq!" the man said.

"The first is that when you want to disobey Allah you do not eat anything He provides."
"Then how will I get anything to eat? Everything on the earth is from Him!"
"So is it right to eat His provision and disobey Him at the same time?" replied Ibrahim.
"No, it is not. What is the second condition?"

"When you want to disobey him, move off His land."
"That is even more difficult! Exclaimed the man. "In that case where will I live?"
"Is it right to eat his provision and live on His land and then to disobey Him?" asked Ibrahim.
"No, it is not. What is the third condition?"

"When you want to disobey Him in spite of eating His provision and living on His land, find a place where He will not see you and disobey Him there."
"What do you mean, Ibrahim? He knows everything that happens even in the most hidden places!"
"So is it right to disobey Him when you eat His provision and live on His land and when you know that He can see everything you do?"
"It certainly is not!" the man replied. "Tell me the fourth condition."

"That when the Angel of Death arrives to take your soul, you say to him, 'Give me a reprieve so that I can repent and act righteously for Allah."
"But he won't listen to me!"
"Then if you cannot ward off death long enough to give yourself time to repent, and you know that when it comes there will be no reprieve, how can you hope to be saved?"
"What is the fifth?"

"That when the angels of the Fire come to you to take you to the Fire, you do not go with them."
"They will take me whether I like it or not!" exclaimed the man.
"So how can you hope to be saved?"
"Enough, enough, Ibrahim! I ask Allah's forgiveness and I turn to Him!"

The man's repentance was sincere and from that time on he was assiduous in his worship and avoided acts of disobedience until the day he died.
